Summertime Thoughts About Math

I've been away from this for a while, but I just want everyone to know that I'm still out there!!

Summer is always an interesting dilemna for struggling students: I need a break vs. I'll lose the math! Deciding what to do is tricky because taking a college math class in summer can be tricky.  Most college math courses are condensed into a shorter time span, and condensed courses mean less time to process old information before learning new stuff!  I usually recommend not taking math in the summer for one reason.  It's harder! Pure and simple!  Look at the time frame.  Is the normal 16 week semester being squished into 8 weeks?  Can you work with twice the speed and intensity? Is this easy math or crazy hard math?  How many times have you taken the class?  How many times can you repeat a class before you ruin your GPA, get charged out of state fees, and are told to finish the math at another college?  Taking math in the summer is risky business!  How critical is it for you? Students who are afraid of losing their learned knowledge might want to consider some sort of tutoring review support in the summer instead of trying to start learning something new!
